The Servatory
Cookie Policy
Last updated: 17 June 2026
This is a working template, not legal advice. Review and adapt it (placeholders in brackets, and the specifics for your jurisdiction) before relying on it.
This page explains the cookies and similar browser storage The Servatory uses, and how to control them.
Strictly necessary
- payload-token — an authentication cookie that keeps you signed in. It is required for member accounts to work and is not subject to consent.
Functional (stored in your browser)
These use your browser’s local storage rather than cookies. They stay on your device and are not sent to us:
- your Channel player preferences (dock position, current reading, playback position);
- your cookie choice, so we don’t ask again every visit.
Analytics
We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that we host ourselves. It is cookieless, sets nothing on your device, and collects no personal data. It is never used to identify you; it only counts aggregate things like page views and referrers, which helps us understand what is worth reading. Because it stores nothing on your device, it runs for all visitors and needs no consent.
Your choices
- On your first visit, a short notice explains the items above; dismiss it with Got it. You can read it again anytime via Cookie choices in the footer.
- Your browser settings can block or delete cookies and storage, though this may affect how the site works (for example, staying signed in).
